German Interior Minister Apologizes for Photo Drinking with Kyiv Mayor
Germany's Interior Minister Nancy Faeser has apologized for a photo taken during her visit to Kyiv in July, where she is seen laughing with a glass of champagne in hand, according to Spiegel.
"I regret the photo. Of course, it was inappropriate," emphasized Faeser.
In the image, the head of Germany's Interior Ministry is pictured with Federal Minister of Labor Hubertus Heil, Germany's Ambassador to Ukraine Anka Feldhusen, and Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko. The officials, holding glasses of champagne, stand on the balcony of the ambassador's residence, smiling carefree.
Faeser noted that Kyiv has already returned to normal life. "We were invited to an evening with the ambassador and Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, and we chose the same drink as he did," the German politician stated, adding that she would not engage in such behavior again.
At the end of July, Faeser, along with Minister of Labor Hubertus Heil, visited Kyiv. In addition to the capital of Ukraine, they also traveled to the city of Irpin.
The photo from the ambassador's residence sparked outrage in social media comments.
