All Rivers Flowing into Lake Sevan Polluted with Nutrients
The Ministry of Environment's Hydro-Meteorology and Monitoring Center has presented data on the quantities of nutrients in rivers flowing into Lake Sevan for the months of June, July, and August 2022.
The Hydro-Meteorology and Monitoring Center conducts water quality monitoring in the Sevan basin area in rivers such as Dzgaget, Masrik, Karchaghbyur, Vardenis, Martuni, Argichi, Tsakhkar, Shoghvak, and Gavarraget.
It has been found that all the aforementioned rivers flowing into Lake Sevan are contaminated with nutrients. The likely causes of this nutrient pollution are municipal household wastewater and agricultural runoff, which carry significant amounts of nitrogen and phosphorus into the rivers and subsequently into the lake.
