Traveling from Meghri to Agarak Requires Checkpoint Passage

In Armenia, traveling from one community to another now requires passing through customs checkpoints or detours to avoid obstacles. This is reported by Yerevan.Today.

The photo is from the Meghri-Agarak road. Russian peacekeepers are already monitoring the road, stopping all citizens for checks before allowing them to proceed. Armenian citizens were not previously informed about this situation, leading to unexpected encounters with this issue when visiting Agarak. The government has yet to provide any explanations.

This marks the third obstacle in Syunik, following the Kapan-Jakaten and Goris-Kapan roads. However, unlike the first two, which were seized by Azerbaijanis, this checkpoint presents a different challenge.

The media outlet also notes that the Armenian government is constructing a detour road adjacent to the Noyemberyan highway, as it is reported that, under the framework of the 'transfer of enclaves' program, which has been dubbed delimitation-demarcation, the highway will be handed over to Azerbaijanis.
