Erdogan Announces Military Operation in Syria
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan confirmed on Monday Ankara's plans to establish a 30-kilometer security zone in Syria, stating that it aims to rid the last part of its neighboring territory from militants in the near future. The news was reported by TASS.
“Our decision to create a 30 km deep security zone along our southern borders remains unchanged. I hope that we will soon clear the last territory in Syria where the armed organization, the Kurdistan Workers' Party, is hiding, and unite the rings of the security zone,” Erdogan said during a meeting with Turkey's ambassadors from other countries. Earlier, the Turkish president had announced that Ankara is planning a new military operation in northern Syria.
