Baku Aims to Cut off Armenians from 'Lifeline': Heated Discussion on Ukrainian TV Channel

The Ukrainian Esprеso TV news channel has addressed the escalation of tensions in Artsakh during its broadcast. This was reported to LURER․com by Alexander Bozhko, the former (first) Ambassador of Ukraine to Armenia, who was one of the participants in the program.

In an interview with the media outlet, the experienced diplomat noted that one of the reasons for the escalation of the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh was Azerbaijan's unilateral violation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani ceasefire. He stated that behind the actions of the Azerbaijani armed forces lies Azerbaijan's desire to cut off the so-called 'Lachin Corridor,' which is, in fact, the 'lifeline' for the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh.

'Complete control over this crucial communication will allow Baku to dictate its terms to the Armenian side, applying pressure on it to demand, in particular, the acceleration of the signing of a peace treaty between these two countries in the South Caucasus on favorable terms for Azerbaijan,' the experienced diplomat announced during the Ukrainian channel's broadcast.

Bozhko also expressed the view that this provocation has taken place with the tacit approval of the Russian peacekeeping forces, as, according to the former ambassador, Moscow seeks to maintain its influence in the South Caucasus.
