VIDEO: Why Shiite Radicals Seized the Azerbaijani Embassy in London - Details
The seizure of the Azerbaijani embassy in London by the Shiite organization "Mahdi's Servants Union" should not be seen as a passive and strange act of terrorism, but rather exclusively as a response to the real terrorism of Aliyev's regime. This was stated by Russian historian and Islamologist Anton Yevstratov while commenting on the events in London for the Infoteka24 portal.
“Ultimately, the group of Ilham Aliyev in Azerbaijan has carried out real persecution against Shia Muslim believers and their religious practices. Their religious activists are imprisoned, where they are tortured and humiliated, and their public prayers and sermons are forced to be conducted almost in secret. Their religious authorities (marja-e taqlid) are simply banned from being in the country, and for some time now, religious symbols have begun to be removed from the walls of Shia mosques, causing pain and outrage in the hearts of every believer. In fact, in the eyes of a simple Shia, wherever he lives, Aliyev appears as the unholy heir of the Umayyad caliph Yazid, persecuting the followers of Ali and Fatima and killing their son Hussein. However, Azerbaijani Shiites have an intercessor who will not turn a blind eye to the indulgence of Baku's tyrant,” the Islamologist noted.
According to him, this refers to the Islamic Republic of Iran. “Iran is interested in politically punishing Azerbaijan. It regularly receives territorial demands from it. Since Iran is the center of Shiism in the world, it is clear that the ‘Mahdi's Servants Union’ is also centered in Tehran. The London incident can be seen as the Islamic Republic’s first warning to the plunderers of Baku. Considering Iran's experience of successfully acting through its agents in various countries around the world, it would be wise for Baku to correctly assess this message,” he added.
