Macron and Aliyev Have Held a Phone Conversation
The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, has called the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev. This was reported by local media, citing the Azerbaijani President's press service.
It is noted that during the phone conversation, Emmanuel Macron expressed concern over the recent tensions in the region and emphasized the importance of continuing negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as the implementation of the provisions of the trilateral statement dated November 10, 2020.
He expressed France's readiness to support the continuation of dialogue between the two countries.
Aliyev, in turn, spoke about the aggravation of the situation and alleged provocations by Armenia, which resulted in the death of one Azerbaijani soldier.
Additionally, according to Azerbaijani media reports, during the phone conversation, Aliyev mentioned to Macron that an alternative new road route for the Lachin corridor has been determined in accordance with the agreements reached with the Russian Ministry of Defense and the provisions of the trilateral statement, and the construction of that road is nearing completion by Azerbaijan. According to him, after the completion of these works, a redistribution of Russian peacekeeping forces is planned along the stated road in accordance with the trilateral statement dated November 10, 2020.
It should be noted that due to tensions along the contact line in Artsakh, the number of injured military personnel has reached 19, with 2 Armenian soldiers reported killed.
