Azerbaijan to Join the Economic Cooperation Organization of the Islamic Eight
The Islamic Republic of Iran has supported Azerbaijan's application to join the economic cooperation organization D-8, known as the "Islamic Eight." This position was expressed by Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, according to Annanews.info.
Speaking via videoconference at the 20th D-8 Ministerial Council in Bangladesh, the head of Iranian diplomacy stated that "the expansion of the D-8 and the addition of new members could serve as a tool for achieving the organization's goals."
"We welcome our friendly and neighboring country, the Republic of Azerbaijan's readiness and desire to join the D-8," he said.
Earlier, Turkey's Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu announced Baku's plans to join the D-8 economic cooperation organization. According to the Turkish minister, the "Islamic Eight" currently requires strengthening and expansion.
