Washington Ready to Support Dialogue Between Armenia and Azerbaijan, US State Department

The US State Department reports that today, Secretary of State Antony Blinken had a phone conversation with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, during which the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict was also addressed.

In his remarks, the Secretary stated that Washington is prepared to cooperate with like-minded partners on a bilateral basis and in the role of co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group to support dialogue between Azerbaijan and Armenia and to promote a long-term political resolution to the conflict.

The statement released by the State Department notes: "Secretary Antony Blinken spoke today with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu. The Secretary appreciated Turkey's diplomatic efforts that led to the first shipment of Ukrainian grain leaving the Black Sea since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. He emphasized the importance of joint work to ensure additional vessels' departures and underscored the necessity of holding Moscow accountable for fulfilling its commitments. The Secretary also raised the issue of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, reiterating that the United States is ready to cooperate on a bilateral basis with like-minded partners and in the capacity of OSCE Minsk Group co-chair to support dialogue between Azerbaijan and Armenia and to facilitate a long-term political resolution to the conflict.

Secretary Blinken and Minister Çavuşoğlu also discussed ways to advance coordination and NATO unity in light of the ongoing threats of further escalation and aggression from Russia towards Ukraine.
