Joseph Stalin Arrested in Sri Lanka

The Sri Lankan police have arrested Joseph Stalin, the leader of the National Teachers' Union, for organizing and participating in unauthorized protests earlier this year in May, according to РИА Новости.

The activist led protests that ultimately resulted in the ousting of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

As reported by the Guardian, during his arrest, Stalin attempted to argue with the police, stating that "the right to protest is a democratic right." He has been sent to a temporary detention facility.

Dozens of protesters have also been detained and accused of damaging public property.
