Russia on the Peace Agreement Between Armenia and Azerbaijan

Russia is actively involved in the preparation of a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan. This was stated by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

“The special representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for support in the regulation of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, Igor Khovaev, is holding regular consultations with the parties to find points of contact, achieve mutually acceptable fundamental principles, and determine the parameters of the peace agreement,” the diplomat noted, reminding that meetings took place on July 22 in Baku and on July 28 in Yerevan.

According to Zakharova, the delimitation of the Armenia-Azerbaijan border is one of the key aspects of Russia's mediation efforts aimed at improving dialogue between the two countries. “Moscow's consultative role in this process was enshrined in the trilateral statement at the highest level in Sochi on November 26, 2021. As is known, a relevant bilateral commission was established in late May, and the first introductory meeting of representatives from Armenia and Azerbaijan took place at the border of the two countries,” said the spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry. “Moscow is always ready to welcome our Azerbaijani and Armenian friends on Russian territory.”

Zakharova expressed confidence that Russia's professional capabilities in border delimitation and demarcation in the post-Soviet space can significantly enhance security at the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and throughout the region. She noted that the specific timelines for various meetings are determined by Yerevan and Baku.
