Reasons for Lack of U.S. Investments in Armenia Revealed

Corruption continues to pose a significant barrier to U.S. investments in Armenia. This was stated in a report by the U.S. Department of State regarding the investment environment in Armenia for the year 2022.

"Corruption remains an obstacle to U.S. investments in Armenia, particularly in crucial areas such as the justice system and issues related to the rule of law, as well as compliance with existing laws and regulations. Investors assert that sectors like healthcare, education, military, correctional, and law enforcement lack transparency and have previously been used for selective enforcement to extort bribes. It is essential to test the efficiency and independence of newly established anti-corruption institutions. Some have expressed concern about whether certain officials in judicial and law enforcement agencies are selected objectively. The potential for external influence based on political motives remains a challenge for anti-corruption institutions, as well as for the law enforcement and prosecutorial bodies," the statement noted.
