Gunshots in Kotayk: Factory Head Hits Police Vehicle with ‘UAZ’ and Flees

On July 25, a pursuit involving gunshots occurred in the Kotayk region. According to Shamshyan.com, that day, junior operative G. Arakelyan from the Criminal Investigation Department of the Kotayk Regional Police received operational information about two residents of the Kotayk region, 28-year-old Georgi V. and 33-year-old Arman Kh., who were allegedly keeping and trafficking drugs.

Based on the received information, operational-search activities were initiated around 11:00 AM on the same day. The criminal investigators stopped the ‘UAZ’ vehicle driven by Arman Kh. in the administrative area of Nor Ghyugh and approached him by identifying themselves as police officers, even showing their service IDs.

The police informed Arman Kh. that he needed to be taken to the police station on suspicion of drug possession and trafficking. However, the driver ignored the order to stop, reversed the ‘UAZ’, and collided with a police vehicle operated by the head of the Kotayk Police’s Criminal Investigation Department, damaging the front part. Afterward, he drove onto the sidewalk, posing a real danger to the lives of citizens, and fled the scene.

Police pursued the ‘UAZ’ and in the 4th Street of Nor Ghyugh, noticed that the driver and his passenger exited the vehicle and fled on foot through the fields. The police pursued them, shouting for them to stop. Seeing that they were not complying with the lawful order, one of the officers fired a warning shot into the air from his service ‘Makarov’ type pistol, causing Georgi V. to stop. He was immediately detained by the police and taken to the Kotayk Police.

Arman Kh. was not apprehended. A total of 2.63 grams of marijuana and a dropper were found on Georgi V. Shortly afterward, operational information was received at the Kotayk Police that Arman Kh. was near the ‘Getap’ restaurant complex on the Abovyan-Aramus highway, where responding police successfully apprehended him.

The ‘UAZ’ vehicle was later discovered and transported to the secured area of the Kotayk Police station under police escort. A criminal case has been initiated by the Abovyan investigative department of the Kotayk Regional Investigative Committee regarding the incident.

According to G. Shamshyan, Arman Kh. is the head of a production facility of one of the well-known companies in the Kotayk region, and Georgi V. also works at the same company.
