A 66-Year-Old Man in California Becomes the Fourth Person in the World Cured of HIV
A 66-year-old man in California has been fully cured of HIV. This was reported by the City of Hope clinic, where he was receiving treatment, according to Life.ru.
It is noted that the man lived with HIV for 31 years, longer than other patients who have reached remission. A remarkable recovery occurred as a result of a stem cell transplant aimed at treating leukemia. To date, only three to four patients are known to have recovered from this condition.
The statement indicated that the patient showed no signs of HIV recurrence after the transplant. He discontinued antiretroviral therapy for HIV in March 2021.
It was mentioned that the patient could have stopped therapy earlier but chose to wait for vaccination against coronavirus.
