Gazprom's Latest Blow to Europe
Gazprom has announced a further reduction in gas flows to Europe through its major pipeline, cutting capacity by up to 20 percent, citing the need for equipment repairs.
The Russian energy giant stated on Twitter that it will decrease the daily volume of gas delivered to Germany via the Nord Stream 1 pipeline. The company has indicated that it will shut down one turbine for maintenance purposes.
The head of the German network regulator, Klaus Müller, confirmed that a halving of gas flow is expected. After a planned ten-day pause, supplies through Nord Stream 1 resumed at 40 percent capacity.
The German government has asserted that it does not believe the technical reasons will lead to further reductions in gas supplies.
