VIDEO: Tourists Killed in Iraq Due to Turkish Shelling
On July 20, Turkish armed forces shelled the city of Zakho in Iraq, located near the Turkish-Iraqi border, resulting in the death of 8 civilians and injuries to 23 others. The shelling targeted one of Zakho's resorts. The overwhelming majority of the victims and injured are tourists. Reports Ermenihaber.am.
Turkey has denied accusations from Iraq indicating that the Turkish armed forces were responsible for the attack, attempting to place the blame on Kurdish militants, whom official Ankara considers terrorists.
Turkey's Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded to the incident, stating: "We call on Iraqi government officials not to make statements under the influence of the rhetoric and propaganda of terrorist organizations and to cooperate in revealing the real perpetrators of this tragic incident."
Meanwhile, footage of the shelling has circulated across Turkish and Arab internet domains, garnering significant attention.
Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi also reacted to the situation on his Twitter page. He declared a national day of mourning and announced that the official Baghdad would recall its charge d'affaires in Turkey.
Additionally, there are reports of protests against Turkey taking place in front of its embassy in Baghdad.
