VIDEO: What Happened in the City Center? The Shooting Incident in Yerevan has been Clarified
On the afternoon of July 31, an unknown citizen called the emergency service 1-02 and reported that gunshots were being heard near building 12 on Isahakyan Street, along with women's screams. The police report indicates that the notification was passed to the Central Police Department, from where an operational group promptly went to the scene. Leaders, investigators, and forensic experts from the criminal police also arrived at the location.
It was revealed that the quarrel began behind building 18 on Isahakyan Street. On one side, residents aged 44 and 21 of the same street were involved, while on the other side, five men aged 18 to 24, all but one of whom were residents of the small city center, were engaged in the dispute.
During the argument, a 43-year-old man fired shots towards the others with an unidentified firearm, to which a 22-year-old resident of Abovyan Street responded by also firing a firearm, which remains unidentified. Additionally, two individuals damaged a BMW vehicle belonging to one of the disputants with wooden bats.
During the examination of the scene, cartridges, wooden and iron bats, and other items were discovered. At 16:50, one of the shooters, a 44-year-old man, was arrested and brought to the investigative division.
A criminal case has been initiated. Measures are being taken to prevent possible developments, identify other participants in the incident, confiscate the firearms used, and establish the reason behind the quarrel.
