Tense Situation in Yerevan: Citizens Block the North-South Road
For over half an hour, a tense situation has unfolded in Yerevan. In the Silikyan district, a large number of residents have blocked the North-South road under construction between Silikyan and the Victory district (4th village) as a sign of protest. In a conversation with Shamshyan.com, participants in the demonstration stated:
“Construction work has started in this area for over a month, which we welcome, but at the expense of the residents’ health. We want to address this issue to the Mayor of Yerevan, who earlier promised that the problem would be resolved, but it turned out that the promise given in the name of the mayor is just empty words.”
The road is completely blocked, causing several kilometers of traffic jams, and the dust from the ongoing construction is causing serious issues.
Not long ago, Andranik Shahbazyan, the head of the police department, arrived at the scene and is currently negotiating with the protesters to open the road. A significant number of police patrols from the Yerevan unit of the RA Police have also arrived.
