Significant Increase in Food Product Shortages Reported in France: Le Figaro
In the past year, the shortage of food products in French supermarkets has dramatically increased. This is evidenced by data from the NielsenIQ analytical company, which was cited by Le Figaro on Monday.
It has been reported that from May 23 to June 19, the shortage of all types of food products in stores reached 5.5%, which is 1.2% higher compared to the same period in 2021. 'Climatic conditions, poor harvests, the conflict between Ukraine and Russia, and other production difficulties have significantly exacerbated the shortage of certain products since the beginning of the year and negatively impacted their availability in stores,' the publication quoted the words of François Lafontaine, a retail consultant from NielsenIQ.
According to Le Figaro, the shortages primarily concerned mustard, oils, sauces, flour, and frozen salt products. Conversely, the availability of certain food items has increased in stores compared to last year during the same period. This includes surimi (a crab meat substitute), processed cheese, chocolate confections, port wine, and milk necessary for baby food.
