Tragic Incident: Bees Stung, and Relative Who Came to Help Accidentally Hit Him with Car

On July 9, a tragic incident occurred in the Kotayk province, as reported by shamshyan.com. Around 10:00 AM, the police department in Hrazdan received a call that a citizen had been transported to their facility in a deceased state. According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan, police officials including Arthur Zhorabyan, the head of the Kotayk regional police, Ruben Nersisyan, the head of the Hrazdan police department, and Arsen Avoyan, the head of the criminal investigations department of the Armenian police, have arrived at the hospital. A group from the Kotayk investigative department of the Armenian Investigative Committee also arrived at the scene, led by deputy head Melkumyan and senior investigator Sargsyan.

Authorities identified the deceased as 51-year-old Smbat G. from Ijevan. It was determined that on the same day at approximately 09:30 AM, Smbat G. was in a field known as ‘Arkhachner’ on the left side at the beginning of Hayfidain Street in Hrazdan, where beehives were located. Initial information suggests that numerous bees attacked and stung Smbat G., after which 36-year-old Karen M. from the Ararat province transported him in his vehicle to the Hrazdan medical center, but Smbat G. unfortunately died en route.

According to the preliminary conclusion from a forensic doctor at the scene, external examination revealed abrasions around the right eye, on the frontal surface of the chest, around the right and left elbow joints, and the right shin. Multiple puncture wounds were also noted on the head, upper limbs, and around the chest, which are characteristic of bee sting injuries.

Shamshyan's reports indicate that a criminal case has been initiated based on Article 155, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Armenia at the Kotayk regional investigative department. It has been found that the beehives belong to Karen M., which are installed in the field located at the 48th km of the Yerevan-Sevan highway. On that day, he observed that bees were attacking Smbat G., who, according to media reports, is Karen M.’s maternal uncle's son.

As Smbat G. began to feel unwell due to the bee attack, Karen M. diverted the bees away from him by attracting them toward himself, moving approximately 200 meters away before returning to the beehives to transport Smbat G. to the hospital with his vehicle. Upon approaching, Karen M. noticed that Smbat G. was not in that location, and while searching for him without checking around, he got into his vehicle, reversed it, unintentionally hitting Smbat G. who had fallen on the ground. A series of examinations, including forensic examinations of the body, have been ordered by the investigator.
