New Tremors May Occur, Emergency Situations Ministry Warns

The Ministry of Emergency Situations of Armenia has issued a statement regarding the recent seismic activity. It notes: “We have already reported that on July 11 of this year, a magnitude 4.4 earthquake occurred in the Georgian-Armenian border zone, near the village of Bavra, with an intensity of 6 on the epicentral zone. Prior to this seismic event, anomalous manifestations were recorded by the monitoring network of the Seismic Protection Territorial Service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, characterizing the stress-deformation state of the earth's crust, which had accumulated in the northwestern region of Armenia surrounding the village of Bavra.

The likelihood of various parameter anomalies materializing in the form of the aforementioned earthquake and its numerous aftershocks is high. Based on information that the overall number of these anomalous manifestations in Armenian territory has decreased and the intensity of anomalies has weakened, as well as the fact that all aftershocks following the aforementioned M=4.4 earthquake have been weaker than the initial tremor, we assume that there is a gradual relaxation of the accumulated stresses in the earth's crust. Therefore, there are no grounds for concern or panic. It should be noted that given the strength of the M=4.4 earthquake, new tremors may occur, some of which may be felt by the population.”
