Video: We wanted to build a site that can be seen from any corner of Armenia: Tsarukyan on the statue of Jesus Christ
The construction of a statue of Jesus Christ has begun on Mount Hatis. Gagik Tsarukyan answered journalists' questions. According to Minister of Economy Vahan Kerobyan, the construction of the statue on Hatis Mountain is a "spectacular" tourism project. "As with other investment cases, we are ready to do everything possible to make this project a reality without obstacles. Today we have come to Mount Hatis to understand the government’s responsibilities; it will not be clear today what all those responsibilities are, but we will sign a memorandum in which the government will announce its support for this project. Later, we will establish a working group to address all issues related to the project," said Vahan Kerobyan.
The Minister of Economy noted that the tourism budget has increased significantly in recent years; for example, in 2021, 4 billion drams were allocated for the development of tourism infrastructure. "Every year, that volume will increase. We consider the main task of tourism development to be the construction of adequate, high-quality infrastructure that will allow tourists to see more in Armenia. This year's budget is larger, and we have planned about 9 billion drams for next year for investments in tourism infrastructure. It is not only the government that should invest in the development of tourism; this project is a great example of what large-scale investments are being made in Armenia. We thank Gagik Tsarukyan for this initiative. We believe that it will ensure a significant tourist flow; we cannot speak with precision about the flow, as that would be an ungrateful task, but we also need to work so that our infrastructures reach the level that we can adequately ensure a new tourist influx," emphasized Minister of Economy Vahan Kerobyan.
