Surik Khachatryan's Son Will Remain in Custody, Lawyer States

The Court of Appeals of the Republic of Armenia, presided over by Judge Rubik Mkhitaryan, has rejected the appeal against the decision of Judge Davit Arghamanyan regarding the detention of Tigran Khachatryan, the son of former Syunik Governor Surik Khachatryan. This information was reported by lawyer Benik Galstyan.

“Judge Rubik Mkhitaryan officially confirmed today his participation in the politically motivated ‘honorary’ case against Tigran Khachatryan. I am confident that Tigran will be free in some time,” he wrote on his Facebook page.

It is noteworthy that Khachatryan was arrested on May 30 based on the first part of Article 316 of the Criminal Code (violence against a representative of authority). On the same day, Haik Sargsyan, the nephew of the 3rd President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan, was also arrested. Both participated in the demonstrations of the “Resistance” movement and were present during the incidents that occurred near the government building on May 30.

Tigran Khachatryan was detained on June 1.
