Video: Our Soldiers Should Not Worry About Their Homes – Papikyan
In Armenia, soldiers today face social security issues, stated Minister of Defense Suren Papikyan during a meeting of the National Assembly’s Defense and Security Committee.
“Our soldiers have a priority issue to solve, which is to feel secure, ensure the safety of their families, and have their own roof over their heads,” said the minister.
He presented a bill on amendments and supplements to the Law on Military Service and the Status of Servicemen, which stipulates a new type of housing provision for officers appointed to military positions after graduating from military educational institutions. According to the bill, these servicemen will have the right to receive housing for free use and ownership.
According to Papikyan, the proposed project will encourage and make the process of obtaining basic military education through military educational institutions and choosing a career in the armed forces more attractive.
“The proposed housing provision implies that servicemen who have been admitted to military educational institutions after July 1, 2022, will be allocated service apartments for free use upon completion of their studies. Additionally, upon completing 20 years of military service, and also in cases where individuals are released from contract military service due to health reasons before the contract period expires, they will obtain the right to ownership of that apartment,” noted Suren Papikyan.
Furthermore, it is expected that during the duration of the contract, in case of the soldier’s death due to military service, the apartment allocated for free use will be given to the soldier's family members.
