CSTO Anticipates Complications in the Region Due to Situation in Uzbekistan: Kuznetsov
The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) is anticipating complications in the region due to the situation that has arisen in Uzbekistan. This was announced on Wednesday by Alexander Kuznetsov, a representative of the CSTO Secretariat, during the IX South Information Security Forum "Infoforum - Sochi".
According to TASS, Kuznetsov noted: "Uzbekistan is part of one of the areas of CSTO responsibility... a development forecast is underway, indicating that everything is extremely unstable and complications are expected. You know that negotiations have taken place between the Russian Federation and Uzbekistan regarding the events that occurred there, and Russia has expressed its support. All of this will, of course, be considered within the framework of CSTO statutory bodies, and there will also be a response to this... It is clear that representatives from other countries are involved in the disturbances in Uzbekistan, contributing to the negative development of the situation."
It is worth recalling that earlier, Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev proposed to annul the autonomous status of Karakalpakstan as part of constitutional amendments, after which mass protests and disturbances began in Karakalpakstan, which has a population of nearly two million. As a result, the country's president announced a state of emergency set to last until August 2.
