Mothers Forced to Abandon Their Children in Maternity Hospitals. Details
In the court of general jurisdiction of Yerevan, under the chairmanship of judge Mnatsakan Martirosyan, the first court session of the high-profile criminal case regarding illegal adoptions has begun. According to the court staff in a conversation with "Pastiinfo", a decision was made to examine the case in a closed session.
It is noteworthy that there are 11 defendants in this criminal case, including the head of the Republican maternity hospital Razmik Abrahamyan, his deputy Arshak Jerjeryan, the former director of the "Yerevan Children's House" state non-commercial organization Liana Karapetyan, and Anush Garsantsyan, a representative of accredited organizations dealing with adoptions in Italy, who is accused of being the leader of the criminal group. Between 2005 and 2019, it is alleged that she received 1.7 million euros from adoptive parents in Italy.
According to the preliminary investigation, the scheme operated as follows: mothers were forced to abandon their children in maternity hospitals, and doctors involved in the group prepared health records for the children, claiming they had various illnesses, including incurable ones.
