What Assets Does the New Chief Prosecutor Own?
The Armenian National Assembly elected Anna Vardapetyan, former assistant to the Prime Minister, as the Chief Prosecutor of Armenia during an extraordinary session on June 29. Vardapetyan is set to assume office on September 15, during a special session where she will take the oath of office.
It is noteworthy that Anna Vardapetyan has previously held positions as a consultant and then deputy minister in the Ministry of Justice of Armenia.
Iravaban.net has presented her and her husband’s declared property and income. In 2017, while she served as the first deputy head of the Judicial Department of Armenia and secretary of the Council of Court Presidents, she declared one apartment (a share of which was received as a donation in 2014) and an income of 2,512,150 AMD from two salaries. In the annual tax declaration for 2017, her income totaled 6,887,415 AMD and 3,000 EUR from salaries.
In May 2018, she submitted a declaration of the termination of her position as the first deputy head of the Judicial Department, where her income at that moment was reported to be 3,837,045 AMD and 900 EUR from salaries.
On April 4, 2019, when Anna Vardapetyan assumed the role of Deputy Minister of Justice, she declared 1,500 EUR and 2,748,999 AMD as income from salaries and loans. In her 2019 annual declaration, her liquid assets in bank accounts amounted to 322,074 AMD and 15 EUR. The reported income included 10,907,198 AMD from salaries received from the Ministry of Justice and Yerevan State University, 1,500 EUR salary from the Council of Europe, and 1,543,899 AMD from a loan.
Upon leaving the position of Deputy Minister of Justice, Vardapetyan declared 10,364,618 AMD as income from salaries and loans, 1,500 EUR from salaries, and 829,207 AMD in bank accounts.
On March 3, 2020, when she assumed the role of assistant to the Prime Minister, she declared 268,643 AMD and 15 EUR in bank accounts, as well as 1,153,196 AMD of income from salaries and loans. In her 2020 annual declaration, she reported 661,863 AMD and 15 EUR in bank accounts, 31,500,000 AMD in cash, and 10,810,063 AMD as income from four salaries, loans, and donations.
In her 2021 annual declaration, Anna Vardapetyan noted 215,453 AMD, 15 EUR in bank accounts, 4,500,000 AMD in cash, and 14,084,066 AMD as income from two salaries and loans.
Anna Vardapetyan's husband, Mamigon Gevorgyan, submitted his 2021 annual declaration on May 30, 2022, in which he noted three apartments in the Arabkir administrative district, of which two are sole ownership and one is co-owned. He also declared a Mercedes Benz vehicle (manufactured in 2007 and purchased in 2014), 12,306 AMD in a bank account, 2,514 USD in a bank account, 2,773 EUR in a bank account, 4,500,000 AMD in cash, 3,553,310 AMD of income from his salary, and a 51,378 AMD loan with HSBC Bank.
