"There are secrets, I do not want to disclose them". What the President of Artsakh said about the alternative road
In the Artsakh Parliament, addressing President Araik Harutyunyan, "Justice" faction member Metakse Hakobyan raised a question regarding the fate of Berdzor and Aghavno.
"According to the announcement of November 9, an alternative road plan was to be designed within three years along the Lachin corridor, in agreement with the parties. Currently, we are being offered a road that runs along the Lachin corridor and extends beyond the 5-kilometer width, which has raised the issue of the depopulation of Berdzor, Aghavno, and Sus communities. The Prime Minister of Armenia states that the Artsakh authorities were involved in the selection of this route and that we took their preferences into account. Does the new road under construction relate to the road described in the 6th point, or is it a different road? Have you given approval, or not, and if so, when? Before giving approval, did you foresee the issue of depopulation of the aforementioned settlements?"
In response, the President of Artsakh stated: "Regarding the route, we have had several proposals from Russia and Azerbaijan. All have been rejected. We have chosen what we believe is the best option. There are secrets that I do not want to disclose here as to why we chose this option, based on the subsequent security issue we have. After the road is completed, we will have the opportunity to express our opinion—does it correspond in quality to the standards we desire, secondly, will it be safe, and in my opinion, it will be much safer."
