Solovyov Apologizes After Azerbaijani Hysteria

Following the airing of an interview with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Artsakh, David Babayan, Vladimir Solovyov triggered a wave of hysteria in Azerbaijan. It should be noted that he was compelled to apologize on camera for allegedly violating journalistic ethics by inviting only one side.

Solovyov stated, “I made a significant political mistake by disrupting the balance of power in a very complex system that is currently unfolding in the Caucasus.” He mentioned that he had intended to give airtime to a representative from Azerbaijan as well, in order to “maintain balance and journalistic objectivity.”

“I want to reiterate that I fully understand the role that Russian-Azerbaijani relations play at this time, and I recognize how crucial it is not to introduce discrepancies into that relationship. I had the honor of speaking with the President of Azerbaijan in the past, but there have been no such conversations since the 44-day war. Once again, I emphasize that I am prepared to provide airtime at any level for the Azerbaijani side to express their views; and of course, I prioritize peace and tranquility in this region,” Solovyov added.

“Therefore, I apologize for not adhering to the rules of objectivity while covering this issue on federal air, and for not providing the opportunity to express the positions of both sides simultaneously, as we did during the 44-day war. The last thing I would want is to create problems in this area... I should have displayed more political wisdom and tact. This is undoubtedly my political mistake, so I apologize,” he concluded during his live program.
