Number of Missing Persons After the 44-Day War: Data from Artsakh
The State Emergency Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Artsakh reports that as of now, 53 individuals are considered missing since the 44-day war, with 33 being military personnel and 20 civilians.
Today marks the day of remembrance for the missing freedom fighters. Under the chairmanship of Karen Sargsyan, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Artsakh and head of the commission dealing with the issues of prisoners of war, hostages, and missing persons, a regular meeting has taken place in the Union of Relatives of Missing Freedom Fighters.
From November 13, 2020, to the first half of 2022, search operations resulted in the discovery of 1,711 bodies and remains.
“Karen Sargsyan noted that negotiations are currently ongoing with the Russian and Azerbaijani sides to resume search operations for the remains and bodies of fallen servicemen,” the statement said.
It is worth mentioning that Karen Sargsyan has also met with the relatives of the missing soldiers.
