Upper Lars Checkpoint Closed for Passenger and Cargo Vehicles

The Upper Lars section of the military highway is closed for all types of vehicles towards the Russian border. This was stated by an employee of the Upper Lars multi-functional customs checkpoint in an interview with News.am.

"The road is closed, and there is currently no information on the timeframe for its restoration," the agency's source noted.

Thus, at present, it is impossible to cross through the only existing checkpoint, Upper Lars, via the Russian-Georgian road for both passenger and cargo vehicles. The restrictions have been imposed due to damage to the section of the military highway leading to the Russian border.

It is worth noting that heavy rains have fallen in Georgia over the past two days in the border crossing area, causing damage to the highway section, which is the only route leading to the checkpoint, due to a flow from the mountains.
