467 Elevators to be Replaced with New Ones, City Hall Clarifies

The Yerevan City Hall announced that this year the scope of the elevator replacement program in the capital will increase by another 10%. Recently, the Yerevan City Council allocated around 410 million drams for this purpose. In total, 467 elevators will be replaced with new ones using community resources in 2022.

“As of now, 23 elevators are being replaced, and we will soon have triple that number. The volume of work will increase daily so that we can complete the work by autumn,” said Arsen Karoyan, head of the municipal economy department of the Yerevan City Hall.

According to the source, under the law on the management of multi-apartment buildings, the elevator is owned by the apartment owners, meaning the residents. Considering the social significance of the issue and the safety of citizens, the city authorities initiated the implementation of the program.

“With this program, the city hall aims to support residents. Each elevator replacement is allotted a period of 40 working days. During that time, the old elevator must be dismantled, and a new one installed, as well as undergo an examination and be handed over to the residents for service,” he added.

It is noted that the process in Yerevan buildings is carried out by the company “RafэlGrig,” which was recognized as the winner in the tender. The elevators brought to Yerevan are first stored before being sent to their installation addresses.

Almost 70% of the operational elevators in Yerevan have been in use for over 40 years, whereas each elevator should be decommissioned after 25 years of operation. Considering the scope of the program, the most worn-out elevators are selected first.

According to the information provided by the city hall, several specifications are set as mandatory requirements in the technical description of the elevator replacement program. All newly installed elevators will be adapted for use by individuals with visual, hearing, and mobility impairments.
