Police Officer Committed Sexual Assault Against Me: Chinese Tourist Files Complaint
A Chinese tourist, Lei Manna, who arrived in Armenia at the beginning of June, claims that a police officer recently committed sexual assault against her in Yerevan.
“The police officer touched my body in Yerevan, which left me in an unbearable situation. The incident occurred on June 2, and that day I had approached the police because my hotel was not returning my money. When the officers arrived, I was standing near the hotel. One of them touched my breast with his hand and squeezed it, then placed his hand on my shoulder and said, ‘I will protect you, I will be there for you.’ And when we were in the car, where there were two other officers and a translator besides us, he hugged me and said, ‘You are beautiful.’ I believe I was subjected to sexual assault. I felt very bad because of that man’s touch,” Lei Manna recounted in an interview with NEWS.am.
Regarding the incident, Lei Manna attempted to file a complaint with the police; however, law enforcement refused to accept her report, stating that there were no elements of a crime in the incident. The Chinese woman also provided us with the name of the officer, which we have not disclosed: “The police told me that it was nothing and they could not process my request. But for me, it is not nothing. A police officer in service in China has no right to touch a woman's body. They can hold a hand or touch hair, but not the breast. For that, the officer would be held accountable in China.”
