VIDEO: Arrest Made for Cause of Forest Fire in Turkey

The cause of the intense forest fires that broke out near the tourist resort of Marmaris in Turkey's southern Muğla province has been revealed. Remarkably, the cause of the fires was found to be arson, with even more intriguing motivations behind the act.

According to reports from Turkish media, the suspect responsible for the arson has already been arrested and has given a self-incriminating confession. It was discovered that S.A., a Turkish citizen, set fire to the forest because his family changed their minds and refused to allocate him the land promised.

Deprived of the land parcel, the Turkish citizen, under the influence of alcohol, took several bottles of gasoline, went into the forest, and ignited it. According to his confession, he initially intended to throw himself into the fire after setting the forest ablaze and self-immolate, but later changed his mind, stating that he lacked the courage to go through with it.

It is important to note that the Turkish firefighting teams have been battling the major forest fire near Marmaris for the fourth consecutive day. The intense winds are hampering their efforts, causing the flames to spread rapidly. More than 2,500 firefighters, 45 helicopters, and 12 aircraft equipped with special equipment have been deployed in the firefighting operations. According to Forestry Minister Vahit Kirisci, approximately 3,000 hectares of forest have been affected by the fire. A total of 275 people from residential areas near three fire hotspots have been evacuated.
