Electric Test Vehicle from Nio Falls from 3rd Floor Parking in Shanghai, Casualties Reported
An electric test vehicle from Nio has fallen from the parking lot on the third floor of a building in Shanghai. Two individuals inside the vehicle have died, as reported by CNBC, citing a statement from the company published on the Chinese social media platform Weibo on Thursday.
The accident occurred around 5:20 PM Beijing time on Wednesday. According to CNBC, details of the crash were deleted from the social media site minutes later, but a new post was later added. In the new post, the manufacturer emphasized that preliminary analysis at the scene concluded that the incident was an 'accident' that did not stem from any structural problems with the vehicle itself.
Nio is one of China's largest companies aiming to be a leader in the electric vehicle industry. The company specializes in the use of replaceable battery systems in its cars to reduce charging times.
