Armenia Proposes Starting Consultations Between Foreign Ministers to Baku: Mirzoyan

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, has responded to questions from Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty. The media outlet sought his commentary regarding the statement made by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, claiming that their proposal to begin work on a peace treaty has not yet received a response from the Armenian side.

In response, Mirzoyan stated, “Both publicly and in international formats, as well as through direct communications with the Azerbaijani side, the Armenian side has repeatedly declared at the highest levels that we are committed to establishing peace in our agenda, and that we do not consider any of the proposals from Azerbaijan regarding a future peace treaty unacceptable, of course complementing those proposals with our own ideas.”

“We have conveyed our agenda for comprehensive peace talks to Azerbaijan through the co-chair countries of the OSCE Minsk Group, but thus far we have not heard any official response. This means that contrary to the claims of the Azerbaijani president, Armenia has not only not rejected but has also positively responded to the proposal for negotiations on the peace treaty and is waiting for a response from Azerbaijan,” he added.

“Moreover, we have proposed to Azerbaijan the initiation of consultations between foreign ministers on the topic of the peace treaty, but so far we have not received a response. The Republic of Armenia reaffirms its readiness to start discussions on the peace treaty as soon as possible,” Mirzoyan emphasized.
