Traffic Police Inspector Demands Bribe from Driver

The National Security Service of Armenia has obtained factual data related to a criminal case initiated at the Anti-Corruption Committee regarding the demanding and obtaining of a bribe by an official of the Armenian police.

Specifically, according to the materials of the criminal case, in March 2021, M.S., a senior inspector of the Traffic Police Service of the Armenian police in Vanadzor, during a document check of driver A.G., discovered that the latter was driving without a driver's license and without a compulsory insurance contract. In a clear act of illegal inaction to avoid penalizing the driver administratively and to prevent the towing of the vehicle to the impound lot, he demanded and received a bribe of 20,000 Armenian drams from the driver.

On June 22, 2022, M.S. was arrested by an investigator from the Anti-Corruption Committee on suspicion of committing a crime under the second part of Article 311 of the Armenian Criminal Code. An investigation is ongoing.
