120 Million Dollar Grant: Armenia and the USA to Sign Agreement

Washington will provide a $120 million grant to Yerevan. A grant agreement is set to be signed between the Government of the Republic of Armenia and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The aim of the grant agreement is to support Armenia in the reform processes aimed at strengthening democracy and economic stability.

$68.565 million will be directed towards promoting democracy, while $51.435 million will be allocated for improving economic security.

“Considering the shocks caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the war unleashed against Nagorno-Karabakh, as well as the fair and transparent parliamentary elections held in 2021, this document affirms the United States' commitment to support the Republic of Armenia in establishing effective and accountable governance, maintaining democratic achievements, and overcoming economic challenges,” the draft states.

The Prime Minister noted at the government meeting that this is a very important agreement. “We are in a very crucial phase of digital reforms, and politically, we should not forget the issue we have. The electoral process should occur under one unified document, and that should be the identification card; this is very important, and I want us to focus on this issue,” said Pashinyan.
