National Security Service Completes Investigation into State Treason Case

The investigative body has announced the completion of the investigation into one of the criminal cases of state treason, reports Armlur.am.

Edgar Arakelyan has been charged with having, as a serviceman of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia, engaged online in May 2021 with an individual named Emma, who is a representative of foreign special services operating under a phone number in the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Unaware of his communication status, he engaged in intimate discussions with her, aiming to flatter her and continue their correspondence. By violating his oath as a serviceman of the Armenian Armed Forces to maintain military and state secrets, he intentionally disclosed state secrets to the mentioned representative of foreign special services in May, through information that became available to him in the course of his service.

This negligence has caused serious consequences, namely, that information containing state secrets has become known to foreign special services, which poses a real threat to the territorial integrity and external security of the Republic of Armenia.

Additionally, Edgar Arakelyan illegally acquired six bullets classified as military ammunition from the shooting range in Nubarashen in 2017, which he unlawfully transferred and stored in his residence. They were discovered and seized during a search conducted on March 3, 2022.
