Alert: The Debed River Has Changed Color
Oleg Dulgaryan, the head of the Community Consolidation and Support Center NGO, wrote on his Facebook page:
“There is an alert from the city of Alaverdi that today around 15:00, the Debed River appeared in this color. Naturally, this refers to the abandoned mine shafts and dumps from Madan that are mixing pollutants through Madan stream into the Debed River. Such a situation occurs after any heavy rain. Thus, every year we consistently pollute our environment, harming people's health and the agricultural environment stretching from Alaverdi to Bagratashen. Who is responsible for this situation, and how are we going to solve this issue? This is what we need to address, rather than hastily adopting laws that harm people's rights and the environment.” SOS Alaverdi, Lori, Debed, and Tavush. Who will be held accountable for this situation, which shortens people's life expectancy?
