Kyiv Reveals Timelines for Resuming Negotiations with Moscow

Ukraine may resume negotiations with Russia regarding the terms of a peace treaty by the end of August. This was announced on June 18 by the head of the Ukrainian delegation, David Arakhamia, in an interview with Voice of America.

He clarified that Kyiv's position at the negotiating table should change by the end of summer. Ukraine will insist on its demands from a position of strength, emphasized Arakhamia, as it is expected that a counteroffensive by Ukrainian forces could take place in August.

“We do not want to share our plans with the Russians, as they can see them in open sources,” added Arakhamia.

On June 17, Ukraine's Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba stated that the time for resolving the situation in Ukraine and Donbas diplomatically has not yet arrived. He emphasized that any conflict eventually ends through diplomacy.

On June 16, the head of the Russian negotiating team, Russian President's aide Vladimir Medinsky, referred to the halt in negotiations between Russia and Ukraine as a tragedy for the Ukrainian people. He stated that Kyiv has not responded to Russia's proposals for a peaceful settlement.
