Yerevan Deputy Mayor Angers Kond Residents and Fears Meeting Them

The newspaper 'Zhoghovurd' reports that Yerevan Deputy Mayor Gevorg Simonian has seriously angered residents of Kond. The cause of their discontent is a proposal presented to the Yerevan Council, which states that Polyclinics No. 1 and 5, along with the 'City Endocrine Dispensary' LLC, will merge with Polyclinic No. 4.

According to Kond residents, the actual architect of this merger is Tigran Avinyan, a former Deputy Prime Minister and candidate for Yerevan Mayor. This news has provoked such anger among the residents that they insist they will not allow Avinyan's intentions to come to fruition or allow the polyclinic building to be turned into a hotel.

Moreover, Yerevan Mayor Hrachya Sargsyan and the proposal's author, Deputy Mayor Gevorg Simonian, have not deemed it necessary to discuss the polyclinic merger plan with the residents in advance.

One resident recounted to 'Zhoghovurd' how they learned about Deputy Mayor Gevorg Simonian's secret meeting with the polyclinic’s medical staff. According to certain information, Simonian was afraid to meet with the residents because they had stated he would be expelled from Kond and should not enter the neighborhood.

“He didn't even come to meet the residents. I asked my neighbor to confirm whether my mother’s medications were available, and she called to say, 'You know, the Deputy Mayor is at the polyclinic.' I rushed to the polyclinic only to find out he had come to meet with the medical staff to discuss the merger, while he had not deigned to meet with the residents. I asked, 'What right do you have to do this, why didn’t you discuss it with the residents?' He had nothing to say, just looked at me. But I insisted that we be received. The next day a few of us went to the City Hall for a meeting, and we argued quite a bit,” shared a Kond resident named Nara.
