Pakistani Residents Urged to Drink Less Tea Due to Import Costs
The Minister of Planning and Development of Pakistan, Ahsan Iqbal, has urged citizens to reduce their tea consumption due to high import costs borne by the government. This was reported by Говорит Москва.
"I request the nation to drink one or two cups less tea, as we are importing it on credit," Sky News quoted the minister as saying. The publication notes that the Pakistani government is concerned about the depletion of its foreign currency reserves due to high-volume purchases.
Meanwhile, on social media, Pakistanis have mocked the minister's remarks, pointing out that the saved tea is unlikely to significantly impact the treasury.
