Attempt to Smuggle Drugs via Air Traffic Foiled, Says SCS
The State Revenue Committee's anti-smuggling department continues its uncompromising fight against the illegal transportation of drugs and psychotropic substances across the borders of the Republic of Armenia.
Recently, information was received by the main investigations department of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia regarding particularly important cases, specifically related to human trafficking, sexual offenses against minors, and illegal drug trafficking, indicating that citizen A.S. was preparing to illegally import drugs through Yerevan's Zvartnots Airport.
Within the framework of cooperation between the State Revenue Committee and the Investigative Committee, the mentioned information was forwarded to the anti-smuggling department of the SRC to ascertain the identity of the citizen and to prevent the smuggling of drugs into the Republic of Armenia.
Through a series of urgent operational and investigative measures carried out by the anti-smuggling department staff and analytical work, the identity of the citizen was determined. After arriving at Zvartnots Airport on a Valencia-Vienna-Yerevan flight, the individual was subjected to appropriate customs control by the workers of the anti-smuggling department.
As a result of the customs inspection of the luggage, approximately 1.4 kg of a greenish substance, identified as 'marijuana', was discovered in three packages hidden among sweets found in cardboard boxes within the citizen’s luggage.
The marijuana substance, along with items found during the personal search of A.S., was forwarded to the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia under the provisions of Article 267.1 of the Criminal Code of Armenia, where the Armenian citizen was detained as part of the ongoing criminal case.
