Anna Vardapetyan's Nomination for Prosecutor General Position Surprises Even the CPP
The newspaper 'Hraparak' reports that Anna Vardapetyan's nomination for the position of Prosecutor General has surprised even the members of the ruling Civil Contract Party (CPP). When it was announced in the CPP faction chat that they would meet with the candidate on June 16, many were unfamiliar with her identity.
They inquired and found out that she is known to the public for being involved in a scandal related to the illegal orders given to the investigator of Ruben Hayrapetyan's Nemetsi case. Despite the fact that in previous years meetings between legislative members and prosecutor candidates were conducted in a somewhat relaxed atmosphere, yesterday, about half of the CPP faction was absent from the meeting with Vardapetyan.
The closed meeting was more of an introductory nature, where the candidate presented her biography and promised to be impartial and unrestrained. However, there is a palpable panic in the prosecutorial and law enforcement system—Vardapetyan's inexperience and likely subservience could lead to significant destructiveness. The current prosecutor, Artur Davtyan, is set to complete his term on September 16.
