Serzh Sargsyan Gave a Very Good Answer to the Question: Hovik Agazaryan
Opposition colleagues of ours left the parliamentary podium and took to the streets to inform the people about their concerns. I am deeply convinced that our citizens were well-informed and there was no need for that; we could have organized one or two demonstrations, but the process lasted a long time. This was stated by Hovik Agazaryan, a deputy from the ruling coalition, during a conversation with journalists in the National Assembly.
“In honor of my team and the consistent actions of law enforcement, we came out of this small crisis. I agree with the thesis that a defeated leader should resign, but, in fact, the situation is such that we have not lost, or the situation is not solely our fault, and therefore this thesis does not apply here. Everything should be assessed by the outcome. Our opposition colleagues were concerned about the political course of the government; they took to the streets due to that anxiety, but the people did not respond, thus the people trust the government,” he said.
Speaking about the government's policy regarding Artsakh, Agazaryan noted: “As a result of the government's policies, the main thesis of which was that the issue of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations should be separated from the issue of the self-determination of the people of Artsakh, this issue is being successfully resolved. We have reached a point where the issue of Artsakh has become a priority matter for the international community.”
When asked whether they are ready to discuss the security of Artsakh within the framework of Azerbaijan, Agazaryan stated that they do not have the right to discuss such an issue without the people of Artsakh and their elected legal authority.
Responding to why the Armenian authorities are not advancing the issue of recognizing the independence of Artsakh, Agazaryan said: “Serzh Sargsyan gave a very good answer to that question, which is that recognizing the independence of Artsakh means declaring war on Azerbaijan and closing all doors to negotiations. I definitely share that viewpoint.”
