After Events in Ukraine, Many Businesses Have Relocated from Russia to Armenia: Pashinyan

Armenia, like all countries around the world, is very concerned about the situation surrounding Ukraine. This was stated by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in an interview with Al Jazeera in Qatar.

“What do we see now? We see a collapse of the world order, and no one knows what the next world order will look like. Of course, we support the resolution of all problems through dialogue and peaceful means,” the Prime Minister noted.

Addressing the question of how the ongoing war in Ukraine might impact the Armenian economy, Pashinyan stated: “Certainly, from an economic perspective, the situation is not pleasant for us. But if I am to be honest, we recorded an 8.6 percent economic growth in the first quarter and hope we can maintain this momentum. After the events in Ukraine, many people and businesses have relocated from Russia to Armenia, as we have a common economic zone; both Armenia and Russia are members of the Eurasian Economic Union.”

Pashinyan pointed out that it is not only the economic situation in Russia that directly affects Armenia’s economy but also the global economic tensions related to food supply, inflation, and many other factors. “But at this moment, Armenia's economic indicators are quite positive,” the Prime Minister said.

Nikol Pashinyan emphasized that Armenia strives to be a direct, honest, and reliable partner for Russia, European, and Western partners, as well as its neighbors. “It is our duty to manage this situation and maintain proper relationships with our partners without betraying any of them,” he declared.
