Cache of Sarcophagi and Statues Discovered in Egypt

During excavations at the archaeological site of Saqqara, located south of Cairo, Egypt, scientists have discovered a cache of sarcophagi along with 150 bronze statuettes and a depiction of the architect Imhotep. This has been reported by France24.

Saqqara is the massive necropolis of ancient Egypt's capital, Memphis, and is included in the UNESCO World Heritage list. It features more than a dozen pyramids, animal burial sites, and ancient Coptic Christian monasteries.

The statuettes depict various gods and goddesses, including Bastet, Anubis, Osiris, Isis, Nefertum, and Hathor. The mummies found date back to approximately the 5th century BC.

Additionally, inside one of the sarcophagi, an intact and sealed papyrus measuring 9 meters in length was discovered, containing sections from the Book of the Dead.
