Forget France, Armenia is the center of winemaking: Euronews' coverage of Armenian winemaking

“Forget France. Armenia is the center of winemaking.” This is how the international media network Euronews has titled its coverage, declaring the Armenian highlands the ancient homeland of winemaking.

According to Armenpress, Euronews discusses the 8000-year-old traditions of viticulture and the 6000-year-old culture of winemaking in Armenia, adding that when considering wine, one should not overlook Armenia, one of the oldest winemaking regions.

The media outlet emphasizes the recent opening of the Wine History Museum in Armenia, where unique exhibits provide visitors with a pathway to the past of Armenian winemaking. These exhibits, through modern solutions, showcase the deep connections between the region, religion, culture, and the medicinal aspects of Armenian wine.

“The museum is located just 30 km from Yerevan, at the Armenia Wine winery, situated in basalt caves 8 meters deep. When you pass through the underground tunnel, it feels as if you are entering a giant wine cellar,” notes Euronews, adding that “the archaeological and ethnographic specimens in the museum demonstrate how wine has accompanied Armenians from the cradle to burial rites.”

Emphasizing the museum’s goal of popularizing the ancient winemaking culture, Euronews also points out the existence of written records, which affirm that Armenia is indeed the cradle of winemaking.
