Murder in Yerevan

The Investigation Committee of the Republic of Armenia is taking necessary measures to clarify the circumstances surrounding the murder of a 44-year-old man in the Shengavit administrative district of Yerevan.

The alert regarding the incident was received on June 9, 2022, at 01:15 AM, from the ‘Erebuni’ medical center, indicating that a 44-year-old resident of Yerevan was admitted with a stab wound to the left side of his chest. Hours later, at 04:50 AM, it was reported that the man had died.

A criminal case was initiated under the first part of Article 104 of the RA Criminal Code. Investigative actions conducted during the pre-trial proceedings, as well as measures carried out in collaboration with the RA police officers, revealed several circumstances surrounding the man’s fatal injuries, including the crime scene, motive, and the identity of the individual allegedly responsible, who is a 1966-born resident of Artashat, Ararat Province.

According to initial findings, on the day of the incident, at 00:30 AM, a dispute over a monetary issue occurred between the victim and the resident of Artashat on Bagratunyats Street in Yerevan. During this confrontation, the suspect allegedly stabbed the 44-year-old in the chest with a knife, inflicting life-threatening injuries.

During the investigation, a search of the crime scene was conducted, revealing blood-like traces. Samples were taken, eyewitnesses were interviewed, and a forensic examination of the body was ordered. The investigation is ongoing.

Measures are being taken to locate the knife used in the crime, as well as the resident of Artashat and to verify the circumstances pointed out in testimonies. Directives have been issued to the investigative body.
